Our first job on Saturday morning took us back to Camborne, where we worked on a VW Caddy Mk3 1.6 TDI. This van was experiencing the all-too-common EGR issues, and the owner also wanted to take the opportunity to add a performance remap.
By applying our EGR delete service and performance tuning, we were able to safely push the little 1.6 TDI engine to its maximum of 150BHP — a huge improvement in both power and drivability.
Why We Love VW Caddys
At Kernowsport, we’ve worked on plenty of Caddy Mk4s and Caddy 2Ks, but this was the first Mk3 we’ve seen in quite a while. We’ve always had a soft spot for the VW Caddy range – they’re reliable, versatile, and respond really well to ECU remapping.
The owner was thrilled with the results, and we had a great chat about his other car — a 1998 Ford Fiesta, which brought back plenty of memories as it was the same year we bought one new ourselves. Proof that time flies!
A Strong Result for a Small Engine
This job was a perfect example of how even smaller engines can benefit from performance remaps. With the EGR issues resolved and a boost to power and torque, the Caddy is now running smoother, cleaner, and stronger — leaving the owner with a big smile on his face.
