VW Caddy Mk4 1.6D ex-British Gas van parked in Helston during KernowSport remap.

VW Caddy Mk4 1.6D Remap & EGR Delete in Helston – Plus Speed Limiter Removal

Anyone who knows KernowSport knows that we love VW Caddys—they’re some of the most rewarding vans to tune, and the results are always excellent. This week, we headed down to Helston to work on a tidy ex-British Gas VW Caddy Mk4, unusually fitted with the 1.6D engine. Almost every Mk4 Caddy we see comes with the 2.0D unit, so this was a nice change. Fresh from its previous owner, the van needed an EGR delete, and the new owner opted for one of our popular Blend remaps, designed to improve drivability and torque without making the van overly aggressive. His words:“Mostly so I don’t make myself late by driving too quickly!” Why We Love Working on Ex-British Gas Caddys These vans are usually: This one was no exception. Clean, tidy, and ideal for tuning work. With their simple layout and accessible engine bay, Caddys are always a pleasure to map, and they respond very well to both performance and blend remaps. Speed Limiter Removed – Helston Approved While we were there, we also dealt with the 70mph factory speed limiter—a common restriction on ex-fleet vans. We have several tools to handle limiter adjustments, including: For this job, Autel was closest to

Citroën Relay Luton van in Wadebridge before remap and DPF software correction.

Citroën Relay Luton Remap & DPF Software Correction in Wadebridge

Today we headed up to Wadebridge to work on another Citroën Relay Luton van for one of our repeat customers. This particular vehicle has truly lived a hard-working life—clocking over 260,000 miles, the equivalent of driving around the world ten times! And impressively, it’s still not the highest-mileage van in their fleet. The owner runs an antique-dealing business and a busy “man and van” service, meaning the van needs to be out on the road 24/7, earning its keep. We had previously tuned another one of their Relays, so they knew exactly who to call when this one needed attention. Fixing a DPF Delete the Right Way This Relay had recently undergone a local DPF delete, but the software side hadn’t been completed properly—resulting in unwanted faults and poor drivability. We were brought in to: Our Blend map is ideal for vehicles like this: It offers a perfect mix of additional power and enhanced fuel efficiency, without the intensity of a full Stage 1 remap—making it a smart, safe choice for hardworking vans. A Reliable Tuning Option for High-Mileage Vans in Cornwall For vans working at this mileage, reliability is everything. Our tuning approach always prioritises: After completing the work, this

Volkswagen Amarok 3.0D parked in St Eval for AdBlue countdown repair.

VW Amarok 3.0D AdBlue Countdown Fixed in St Eval, Cornwall

This week’s job took us out to St Eval, on what used to be part of the old RAF air base, to meet the lovely Hailey and her stunning Volkswagen Amarok 3.0D. Her Amarok was showing an AdBlue countdown that needed sorting before a trip up-country at the weekend—so we were happy to help. Why the VW Amarok 3.0D Is One of Our Favourites We tune a lot of pickups here in Cornwall—Ford Rangers, Nissan Navaras, Isuzu D-Max, Toyota Hilux—but if we had to pick a favourite, the VW Amarok 3.0 V6 TDI would be right up there. Reasons we love them: Hailey’s Amarok didn’t need a remap today, but after seeing the difference our maps make, we’re sure she’ll be tempted next time! Fast AdBlue Fix With the Kess 3 St Eval has a certain nostalgic charm—with street names inspired by historic aircraft—but we didn’t have long to admire the surroundings. This was a straightforward Volkswagen job, perfect for our Alientech Kess 3 tuning tool. The process on these Amaroks is typically: Within a short time, we had the AdBlue countdown cleared and everything functioning as it should. Then it was off to St Austell for the next job of

Range Rover Evoque 2.0D parked at Hewaswater Engineering for AdBlue countdown fix.

Range Rover Evoque AdBlue Countdown Fixed in Hewaswater, Cornwall

This afternoon we took a quick trip out to Hewaswater Engineering, near St Austell, to resolve an AdBlue countdown fault on a Range Rover Evoque 2.0D. We’ve seen a lot of these systems playing up recently—mostly on 2016–2017 models—so when this 2018 Evoque with 77k miles showed the same symptoms, we knew exactly what we were dealing with. When Kess Won’t Talk… Flex Steps In Normally, we rely on our faithful Alientech Kess tools for Evoque AdBlue and ECU work. But this one threw us a curveball—Kess simply couldn’t identify the ECU properly. That’s where having multiple tuning and diagnostic tools becomes invaluable. Enter the Magic Motorsport Flex Tool While we often remove the ECU and work on the bench, this time we decided to try our Magic Motorsport Flex, and it handled the job perfectly. The Flex is particularly strong with: Whereas our Kess 3 kit is the bread-and-butter tool for day-to-day remapping and AdBlue mapping, the Flex fills in the gaps on vehicles that are more selective or harder to communicate with. Fast, Clean, Reliable Results The Flex tool made short work of the AdBlue countdown issue. One major advantage is the excellent real-time feedback it provides during the

2010 VW Transporter T5 2.0D parked in Cornwall during remapping session.

VW Transporter T5 Remap & EGR Delete in Cornwall – 2010 T5 Gains More Power

VW Transporter T5 Remap & EGR Delete in Cornwall – 2010 T5 Gains More Power At KernowSport, VW is by far the most common brand we tune—and the VW Transporter T5 is the model we see more than anything else. Today’s job involved a 2010 2.0D Transporter, owned by Brandon, who wanted to unlock as much power as possible and have an EGR delete carried out. This is one of the most frequent requests we get for VW vans. Transporters are incredibly popular across Cornwall—builders, couriers, surfers and tradespeople rely on them daily—so helping owners get more performance and reliability is what we do best. Virtual Read Tuning – And a Hidden Surprise Most Transporters of this age are what we call a “virtual read” ECU.This means: But the downside? We don’t get to see the vehicle’s existing map. And on this T5, that caused an unexpected twist… A Hidden DPF Delete As soon as we wrote back our modified file, the van threw up DPF errors. That’s when we realised:✔ The van had previously had a DPF delete✘ The owner had no idea this had ever been done It had been masked by whoever tuned it last. After discussing the

Mitsubishi L200 2.2DI parked in Grampound Road during KernowSport mobile remap

Mitsubishi L200 Stage 1 Remap in Grampound Road – More Power for a Cornish Workhorse

It might have been the wettest, windiest day of the year in Cornwall, but that didn’t stop us heading up to Grampound Road to see Kit, a hardworking local stonemason who wanted more performance from his Mitsubishi L200 2.2DI. At KernowSport, we tune work vehicles, pickups and 4x4s all over Cornwall—rain or shine—but today’s weather really tested us. The wind was howling, and the rain was driving through the side doors, soaking everything inside the van! Luckily, the L200 is a pleasure to work on, and despite the conditions we got stuck in. Stage 1 Remap – Safe, Fast & Powerful Using our state-of-the-art Alientech Kess 3 tuning equipment, we delivered a safe and reliable Stage 1 remap, boosting the L200 from: ➡️ 178bhp → 230bhp➡️ Noticeably stronger torque & smoother power The job took less than an hour, even in storm-force weather, and once Kit took it for a test drive, he confirmed it felt “a lot better”—exactly what we expect from these Mitsubishi engines. We then headed back to Hayle for some well-earned warmth! Black Audi Q3 diesel parked in Goonhavern during KernowSport mobile remap

Audi Q3 Stage 1 Diesel Remap in Goonhavern – Mobile Tuning Done Right

Today’s job was as straightforward as they come: a Stage 1 performance remap on a diesel Audi Q3 in Goonhavern, just outside Perranporth. And as seems to be tradition, every Q3 we remap turns out to be black—clearly a popular colour choice among Audi owners in Cornwall! One of the great benefits of choosing KernowSport is that we come to you, whether you’re at home, at work or on the road. This session took place at the customer’s workplace, keeping things convenient and stress-free. ECU Mapping Done Safely – Even With a Few Hiccups Before carrying out any remap, we always connect a battery conditioner. This is a crucial step to stabilise voltage during the ECU write process and prevent corruption or damage. On this Q3, we ran into two challenges: Fortunately, the owner managed to get the bonnet open, allowing us to proceed safely. It’s a good reminder that the condition of the vehicle can occasionally make a remap unsuitable or even impossible—we’re honest about this, and we’ll never risk damaging a customer’s car. If it’s safe to tune, we will. If not, we’ll advise the best next steps. Strong Gains, Smooth Delivery – Typical VAG Results Once connected

Unique VW Transporter camper conversion parked in Calstock during KernowSport visit.

Unique VW Transporter Camper Tuned in Calstock – Remap & Electrical Repairs

Our first job of the day took us on a scenic drive up to Calstock, near Plymouth, to visit our friend and repeat customer, Julian. We’ve previously tuned his Mercedes Vito and Mercedes Sprinter, and this time he invited us back to take a look at his latest pride and joy—a very special VW Transporter camper conversion. A Transporter Like No Other We expected a standard T5 conversion, but when we arrived, we were met with something far more unique. This vehicle began life as a 2007 2.5TD VW T5 chassis cab, later lengthened and fitted with a substantial custom camper rear end. This wasn’t your average conversion—it included everything from extended living space to a full stand-up shower. It offered the practicality and reliability of a Transporter, with the comfort normally reserved for much larger motorhomes. A proper one-off. Stage 1 Remap & Electrical Fixes Julian asked us for a Stage 1 remap to improve drivability, torque and fuel response—essential for a camper carrying additional weight. While we were there, we also diagnosed and fixed several electrical issues, ensuring all systems worked reliably for future road trips. By the time we finished, this beautifully engineered camper was: Another happy

Ford Transit Custom AdBlue & DPF Delete in Troon, Camborne

Our second job of the day was another Ford — this time a 2017 Transit Custom Diesel. These vans are among the most popular we see at Kernowsport, and while some are a pleasure to work on, others can be a real challenge depending on the year! The pre-2019 Transit Customs are relatively quick and simple to remap and tune. The post-2019 models, however, are a different story — their ECUs are locked by the manufacturer, meaning they often have to be removed and sent to Magic Motorsport in Europe for unlocking before we can begin any work. Thankfully, this 2017 example fell into the easy category. In fact, it turned out to be one of the fastest AdBlue and DPF delete jobs we’ve ever done, taking less than 20 minutes from start to finish — a new Kernowsport record! 🔧 The Job – AdBlue and DPF Delete This Ford Transit Custom belonged to a local customer from Troon near Camborne, whose trusted garage had recommended us after working with Kernowsport several times before. The van was suffering from AdBlue and DPF faults, causing warnings and reduced performance. The plan was for the garage to physically remove the DPF, while

Audi A4 Avant in Redruth at Kernowsport Cornwall for DPF delete and remap.

Audi A4 Avant DPF Delete & Stage 1 Remap in Redruth

Our second job of the day was a great local one — a 2.0 Audi A4 Avant from Redruth, brought in to Kernowsport for a DPF delete and Stage 1 performance remap. The owner had been experiencing intermittent engine management lights, with fault codes indicating injector and glow plug problems. However, these weren’t the true cause — the real issue was excessive back pressure from a blocked DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). This is a common issue we see on a lot of vehicles: the sensors detect pressure problems caused by a blocked filter and wrongly assume a hardware fault. Once the DPF is cleared or deleted and the pressure normalised, these “false” injector or glow plug errors usually disappear entirely. ⚙️ DPF Delete & Power Boost After diagnosing the issue, we carried out a DPF delete and reprogrammed the ECU to safely remove the system from the vehicle’s software. With the blockage removed, we took the opportunity to give the car a Stage 1 performance remap. The results were impressive — the power increased from 140bhp to just under 200bhp, giving the car a smoother, stronger drive and noticeably better throttle response. If you’re curious about what kind of gains

Mercedes C200 D after DPF and EGR fault fix at Kernowsport near Redruth Cornwall.

Mercedes C200 DPF & EGR Fault Fix in Truro

Every now and then, we get a call from a customer who’s had work done elsewhere — but their vehicle still isn’t quite right. This time, it was a Mercedes C200 D from Truro, which had already been to another garage for a DPF delete and EGR delete. Despite the previous work, it was still showing an engine management light (EML) and multiple diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). At Kernowsport, we pride ourselves on not just tuning vehicles — but diagnosing them properly. 🔧 Advanced Diagnostics and Code Correction When the Mercedes arrived, our first step was to run a full scan using our Autel diagnostic system, which allows us to see every stored and pending fault code in the ECU. It didn’t take long to discover that the previous garage had missed some key steps in properly coding out the DPF and EGR systems. This meant the ECU was still detecting those components as missing and triggering the check engine light. Fortunately, with our professional-grade ECU software, we were able to: Within an hour, the Mercedes was back to running cleanly, fault-free, and performing just as it should. If you’re having similar problems after work done elsewhere, we can help.

Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 after ECU remap and pops and bangs tune at Kernowsport Cornwall.

Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 Remap in Hayle – Pops, Bangs & 430BHP

The first job of Saturday morning was something truly special — a Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 that rolled into Hayle for a bit of Kernowsport tuning magic. This car is a rare sight on Cornish roads — not only because of its American muscle heritage but also because it’s one of the few right-hand-drive Mustangs in the UK. With almost 500BHP from the factory, the 5.0-litre V8 already makes its presence known — but there’s always room for improvement. ⚙️ Custom ECU Remap for the Mustang V8 The owner wanted to fine-tune performance and add some personality to the exhaust note, so we set about creating a custom ECU remap tailored to the vehicle’s setup. The remap took the Mustang from its stock configuration down to 430BHP, but that’s not the full story — the pops and bangs tune was the highlight, perfectly matched with its aftermarket exhaust system. The end result? A sharper throttle response, improved drivability, and that unmistakable burble and crackle that every Mustang owner dreams of. You can learn more about how we optimise cars like this on our Performance Tuning page. 🔊 That Signature Sound Hearing this Mustang start up after the tune was pure
