The last job of the day took us to St Ives, where a hardworking Vauxhall Vivaro was struggling with a blocked DPF. These vans are always interesting to work on, as many of the parts are actually Renault branded – the Vivaro shares a lot in common with the Renault Trafic. When we attempted to read the ECU in the vehicle, it wasn’t possible, so we had to remove it and work on it externally. This method, known as benching the ECU, can look more serious than it is – but in reality, it’s actually the safest way to work. By benching, we can take a complete backup of the ECU before applying changes, meaning there’s always a safety net. Fortunately, in our years of work, we’ve never had to use one of those backups – but we like to know it’s there! The first of three jobs today was this stunning Jaguar E-Pace, the very first one we’ve had the pleasure of working on. Owned by a customer from Hayle – our home town – the E-Pace had been suffering from some DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) issues that needed urgent attention. To get the job sorted, we headed over to our friends at Pads Fab in Pool, a workshop we collaborate with a couple of times a week. Pads Fab is run by Ben, a real expert in welding and fabrication, and we’d happily recommend him if you ever need custom work done. He’s one of those rare people who can make almost anything from metal! With the Jaguar plugged into our diagnostic tools and some ECU work completed, we were able to get the DPF problem resolved quickly, getting the E-Pace running smoothly again. Today we were in Pool near Redruth carrying out two DPF delete jobs, one of which was on this Fiat Fiorino owned by Jemima, a hardworking delivery driver.
