    Job two of the day was a call-out to Menheniot, near Liskeard, where our customer was busy refurbishing a property but ran into vehicle trouble. Their 2020 Peugeot Expert was suffering from AdBlue problems and had started to smoke heavily, which wasn’t great for them, their vehicle, or their customers nearby. AdBlue issues can present in several ways, but in this case the pump had stuck on, spraying excess AdBlue into the exhaust. This caused plumes of unpleasant white smoke and made the van practically unusable. Fortunately, Kernowsport were able to diagnose and fix the fault quickly, carrying out the repair roadside in Menheniot. Within no time, the Peugeot Expert was back in its usual reliable condition without the need for lengthy downtime or a garage visit.     One of today’s jobs took us to St Ives Holiday Park in Hayle, where a Mercedes C-Class diesel was suffering from the dreaded AdBlue countdown. We’ve seen quite a few Mercedes C200 and C220 models recently, all with similar issues. These can sometimes be a little tricky to work with, as the ECUs are either older units that take up to 90 minutes to read, or they need to be removed completely from the car to be remapped.     Job three today took us all the way to Sennen, after a busy run that included Wadebridge and Leedstown earlier in the day. Luckily, job four was just down the road in Angarrack — a welcome relief after covering so many Cornish miles! This job was on an ex-Variety Club Fiat Ducato camper conversion owned by Nigel, who had impressively converted it himself. We always enjoy seeing how other owners set up their Ducatos, and Nigel’s craftsmanship was seriously impressive. The task for us was to deliver a little more power and remove the restrictive speed limiter. Ducatos are known for being a little temperamental to remap, and this one was no exception — requiring some clutch presses, engine starts, and a bit of a “tuner’s dance” to get it right.     We got an early call today to head to Wadebridge, after another tuner had let a customer down because they couldn’t work in the rain. That’s not a problem for Kernowsport — our trusty mobile workshop in the Ducato van is fully equipped to keep us going in any weather, making sure we never leave our customers stranded. The job was a stage one performance remap on a Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works. We see a lot of Minis, but the JCW models are much rarer, and they’re already fantastic cars to drive straight out of the factory. With our ECU remap, we were able to safely lift the power to over 200BHP, transforming it into a seriously lively little hot hatch.     Job number two today was an unusual one, and unfortunately interesting for all the wrong reasons. We were called to Camelford to look at a Mercedes GLE 350 that was suffering from persistent AdBlue issues. As usual, we carried out our diagnostic work, removed the AdBlue faults, and prepared the ECU fix. All went smoothly until we pressed the start button — and nothing happened. After two hours of diagnosis, testing with various tools, and even putting the original map back on, the cause became clear. Once this particular Mercedes GLE 350 records a “no start” AdBlue error, it cannot be cleared with standard tools — it requires a dealer reset to enable the engine to start again. This was the first case of its kind we’ve come across, and it serves as a valuable reminder: don’t ignore AdBlue warnings. This vehicle had been alerting the driver for more than 800 miles before finally locking itself into a no-start condition. For now, the car will need a trip to Mercedes for the reset.     The last job of the day took us to St Ives, where a hardworking Vauxhall Vivaro was struggling with a blocked DPF. These vans are always interesting to work on, as many of the parts are actually Renault branded – the Vivaro shares a lot in common with the Renault Trafic. When we attempted to read the ECU in the vehicle, it wasn’t possible, so we had to remove it and work on it externally. This method, known as benching the ECU, can look more serious than it is – but in reality, it’s actually the safest way to work. By benching, we can take a complete backup of the ECU before applying changes, meaning there’s always a safety net. Fortunately, in our years of work, we’ve never had to use one of those backups – but we like to know it’s there! Like many vehicles fitted with AdBlue systems, the sensors can become coated with crystals, causing false readings and triggering dashboard warnings. Left unchecked, these issues can quickly escalate into limp mode or even no-start countdowns. Fortunately, we’ve worked on plenty of these systems before and were able to diagnose and repair the AdBlue fault quickly, getting this 3.2-litre beast back into A1 condition and ready for work again.     The first of three jobs today was this stunning Jaguar E-Pace, the very first one we’ve had the pleasure of working on. To get the job sorted, we headed over to our friends at Pads Fab in Pool, a workshop we collaborate with a couple of times a week.     Whilst at RWG Engineering in Pool, Redruth, we were asked to take a look at a heavily modified VW Transporter suffering from a mix of turbo, EGR, DPF, and remap issues. Judging by its colour, we suspect this van may have once had a previous life with a well-known breakdown company! With 249,000 miles already under its belt and now on its third engine, this T5 had clearly had a tough working life. On inspection, we found that the existing remap was far too aggressive, pushing excessive boost. The result? Overboost issues that were so severe they were blowing the welds off the aluminium turbo pipe — something we don’t see every day! To resolve the problem, we carefully backed off the map to make the power delivery smoother and the boost more controlled. This not only improves reliability but should also stop the constant frustration of repairs for the owner.
