This job was carried out at our colleagues Pads Performance in Pool near Redruth, where one of their customers was experiencing a start-stop error on their Peugeot 3008. Unusually, the fault was also triggering an engine management light, making it even more frustrating for the owner from Camborne. In many vehicles, start-stop issues can be resolved simply by switching off the function or clearing codes with an OBD reader. Our second job of the morning was a quick and effective one in Helston, where we worked on a Hyundai iLoad van. One of our weekend jobs this week — and our 50th job of the month — was this tidy BMW 118 in Angarrack. This little 3-cylinder petrol turbo came to us for a performance boost, and we were more than happy to help. BMWs can be a little hit and miss around the 2020 model year, as that’s when manufacturers started introducing locked ECUs. These can’t always be tuned through the standard diagnostic (OBD) port. In this case, we had to carry out a bench remap, which involves physically connecting to the ECU to read and write data safely. Once complete, we applied a stage one performance remap, and the results were impressive. The last job of the day took us back to our hometown of Camborne, in the Pengageon area, to work on a tidy Dacia Sandero. Despite having only 17,000 miles on the clock, its owner Andy wanted a little more out of the small but surprisingly lively 900cc engine. From the factory, the Sandero produces 88BHP, but with a Kernowsport performance remap, we safely lifted it to 112BHP. While the number itself may not sound huge, the difference in everyday driving was noticeable — better pulling power up Cornwall’s hills and much easier overtaking. Exactly what Andy had hoped for.
