Another Fiat Ducato camper remap for Kernowsport, this time in Porthleven, just a short hop from our base in Hayle—and conveniently close to one of our favourite coffee spots at Origin. Any excuse! This 2.3-litre Fiat Ducato camper belonged to a lovely couple visiting Cornwall from Wales, spending the New Year exploring the county. After the long, slow drive down, they decided the van needed more usable power and better driveability—especially for hills and motorway cruising. Not All Remaps Are Created Equal We carried out a full ECU read using our Alientech KESS 3, before sending the original file to our trusted file partners at VIEZU for analysis and calibration. What we discovered was unexpected. Despite the owners being unhappy with the performance, the vehicle had already been remapped previously. On closer inspection, the existing map was missing several critical elements, meaning the engine was never delivering its full potential. This is, unfortunately, more common than many owners realise. Our first job after Christmas took us just down the road to St Erth near Hayle, making it a perfect local start to the year for Kernowsport. While we’ve worked on plenty of Volvos over the years, this was our first V60, and it proved to be a great example of why careful, professional ECU work matters. Why a Bench Read Was the Right Choice for This V60 On the Volvo V60, the ECU is positioned beneath the windscreen scuttle, meaning some trim needs to be removed to access it. While OBD tuning via the diagnostic port is often the quickest route, in this case we opted for a bench read. A bench read allows us to: It takes a little longer, but it’s the safest and most thorough approach, especially on vehicles where ECU access isn’t straightforward. A Relaxed Job With Great Results With the ECU safely read and written, the remap itself went smoothly.
