We thought this would be our last job of the day — but no rest for us at Kernowsport! This time, we were called out to a Peugeot 5008 that had been suffering from increasingly frequent AdBlue issues, finally ending with the dreaded 600-mile countdown to no start warning. At first, we hoped this could be resolved via the car’s OBD port, but it turned out to be one of those cases where the ECU needed to be removed and worked on via the bench method. While it may sound more complicated, this approach is actually safer, as it allows us to take a full read from the ECU and always keep the original file in case anything ever needs restoring. Although it meant more work for us, the file remap completed successfully. On testing, the car initially showed a few errors, which can happen when the battery is disconnected during ECU removal. A quick reset with our professional-grade diagnostic tools cleared everything, and the Peugeot 5008 was back to running perfectly — with its AdBlue issues permanently resolved. Today we were in Pool near Redruth carrying out two DPF delete jobs, one of which was on this Fiat Fiorino owned by Jemima, a hardworking delivery driver. Like many delivery vehicles, her Fiorino was constantly doing short journeys and idling for long periods — the perfect recipe for DPF blockages. In fact, Jemima told us that her last diagnostic reading showed the DPF was an incredible 300% full! Another VW Transporter T5 and another holidaymaker helped this Sunday morning in St Austell, Cornwall. Jack, visiting from Southampton, was enjoying a few days in Kernow when his much-loved 2004 VW T5 began having EGR issues. Despite having an incredible 311,000 miles on the clock, the van still looked in great condition — more like one with half the mileage. Originally fitted with the 2.5 engine, this T5 produced an impressive 175BHP stock, and after a performance map earlier in its life, it was closer to 220BHP. Jack had already removed the EGR valve himself, but he needed Kernowsport to carry out the ECU EGR delete to finish the job properly. We were more than happy to help and get the van running at its best again. (Although, in true Kernowsport style, we managed to forget our OBD reader and had to make a quick detour to Par to collect it afterwards!) Today’s customer from Heamoor, near Penzance, wanted a little more pulling power from his VW Tiguan to make towing his caravan easier. Cornwall’s hills can be tough on standard engines, so he came to Kernowsport for a professional ECU remap. The Tiguan left the factory with 138BHP — respectable for a large four-cylinder family SUV — but we knew we could unlock more. After our remap, the car was producing an impressive 193BHP, alongside an increase of 70lb/ft of torque. That extra torque makes a big difference when towing. It means less strain on the engine, smoother acceleration, and an overall easier drive when tackling Cornwall’s steep climbs. This Saturday morning, we were over at Pasfab in Pool carrying out a few DPF deletes — and the first job of the day was something a little special. Rachel brought in her Maserati Ghibli, which was showing a 100% full DPF warning. Left untreated, a blocked DPF can cause serious running problems, but we were able to put things right with our expert DPF delete service. While we were fixing the issue, Rachel’s partner — a self-confessed petrolhead — decided to go one step further. We carried out a performance remap on the Maserati, pushing its power up to around 350BHP. Not bad at all for a big four-door luxury saloon! Our second job of the day took us to Newquay, where a customer had a 2015 Range Rover Evoque suffering from both AdBlue and DPF issues. We see a fair number of these Evoques from around 2016–2017, and while we’re familiar with the faults, they’re fitted with a variety of ECU types which can present different challenges. On this occasion, our trusted Alientech Kess 3 tool wasn’t able to process the job, so we turned to our Magic Motorsport Flex system instead. These two tools are very different but achieve the same result, and as professional tuners we rely on having multiple systems available — when one can’t do it, the other usually can. Thanks to having the right equipment and the experience to adapt, we were able to quickly resolve the EGR and AdBlue issues on this Evoque, along with the DPF problems that were causing it to underperform. The dashboard warning showed only 44 miles left before the truck would be disabled – meaning we had to act fast to keep it in service. Initially, we thought this would be a straightforward job, but it quickly turned into a test of patience and skill: Thankfully, owner Les was patient and understanding as we worked through the process. After hours of careful work, we completed the custom programming, reinstalled both ECUs, and successfully cleared the AdBlue faults. We received a call from a garage in London about a vehicle they had sold just the day before and delivered to its new owner, Susan, in Helston. We always love seeing familiar faces — especially when they’re happy with our work! This time, we were back in Troon, Camborne, for a repeat customer. Andy had his VW Transporter T5 remapped by us just a few days ago, and he was so impressed with the performance boost that he invited us back to look at his wife’s car. This little Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI was producing around 100BHP as standard, but with a bit of Kernowsport expertise, we took it up to approximately 150BHP. That’s a significant 50% increase in power, transforming the car’s responsiveness and making it far more enjoyable to drive. Andy was clearly pleased, noting that the car “felt a lot faster” — and who doesn’t love a quicker daily driver?
