VW Transporter T5 Remap & EGR Delete in Cornwall – 2010 T5 Gains More Power
At KernowSport, VW is by far the most common brand we tune—and the VW Transporter T5 is the model we see more than anything else. Today’s job involved a 2010 2.0D Transporter, owned by Brandon, who wanted to unlock as much power as possible and have an EGR delete carried out. This is one of the most frequent requests we get for VW vans.
Transporters are incredibly popular across Cornwall—builders, couriers, surfers and tradespeople rely on them daily—so helping owners get more performance and reliability is what we do best.
Virtual Read Tuning – And a Hidden Surprise
Most Transporters of this age are what we call a “virtual read” ECU.
This means:
- We source the original ECU file from our database
- We modify it for the customer’s needs
- We write it directly back to the vehicle
But the downside?
We don’t get to see the vehicle’s existing map.
And on this T5, that caused an unexpected twist…
A Hidden DPF Delete
As soon as we wrote back our modified file, the van threw up DPF errors.
That’s when we realised:
✔ The van had previously had a DPF delete
✘ The owner had no idea this had ever been done
It had been masked by whoever tuned it last.
After discussing the options, Brandon decided to have the DPF delete mapped back in, so we rebuilt the file, corrected the issues, and resolved everything safely and professionally.
Why Honesty Matters With Older Vans
We always rely on owners to tell us if anything has been done to their vehicle before—ECU work, deletes, add-ons, hardware changes, etc.
But older vans often pass through many hands, and it’s common for owners to be unaware of previous mapping work.
When we uncover hidden problems, we always:
- Explain clearly what’s happening
- Offer solutions
- Fix the issue safely
- Complete the remap to our high standard
Problems happen—even with Transporters—but how they’re resolved is what separates good tuners from great ones.
The Result – A Strong 189 BHP From the 2.0D
The van was initially believed to be the rarer 2.5L five-cylinder, but turned out to be the 2.0D engine—and after remapping, it produced an impressive:
➡️ 189 BHP (Remapped)
A solid gain, and exactly what we’d expect from a healthy 2.0 VW Transporter.
Brandon left happy, with a more powerful, more responsive, and more enjoyable T5.
